Why we carry out research at Multitude of Voyces:
We carry out research:
- So we can create impactful projects which fulfil our charitable aims in our own particular way
- because we are interested in understanding why people who belong to certain groups of society find it harder to succeed and thrive in the world of classical music-making than others.
- so we can understand why some historical attitudes persist in the classical music world even though they are being successfully addressed in other areas of life
- because we are interested in learning about historical (deceased) composers whose music has been overlooked, forgotten, or deliberately ignored
- so we can draw together new knowledge and tell a more rounded story of music-making in the past
- because we want to play our part in learning from the past and developing more equitable habits in the Arts for the future
- so we can provide meaningful new opportunities for communities in the Arts who have been previously overlooked or marginalised
- because we must be able to demonstrate to Donors what their money is needed for and why
Note: It can take several years of research - sometimes involving multiple areas of the Law and professionals with related expertise - to plan one of our projects. So much research has to happen sensitively in the background at MoV; if you are able, please consider making a donation to enable us to continue this valuable work.
Who we work with:
Our research enables us to identify:
- particular communities we could support and raise up through our projects
- individual composers or writers who are keen to represent their own particular underrepresented or marginalised community
- Project Partners who want to demonstrate their own commitment to a more inclusive and diverse classical music world and who can help us in our work
- musicologists who would like to collaborate with us to have their work reach a wider audience
- the executors of creative estates which are still in copyright
- family members of deceased composers who would like our specialist support to get their friend's or relative's work published and performed.
- Trusts, Societies or other organisations - including public and private archives - which would like to collaborate with us for mutual benefit
- inclusion experts, and other professionals in social-sciences and education who can help us ensure that the value of our projects goes beyond an individual commission, publication or performance
