Our endless day (SSA & harp or piano)

This it the second anthem in Multitude of Voyces' Julian of Norwich series commissioned by Dee Stewart, and composed for Godolphin Vocal Ensemble, directed by Olivia Sparkhall with Katie Flanaghan (harp). It was given its first performance in Salisbury on International Women’s Day, 2018. This setting captures the timelessness of Julian’s 14th Century words by using harp ostinati and modal inflections, calling to mind pre-tonal music. The voices drift in and out of dissonance, reflecting Julian’s near-death visions, with moments of clarity juxtaposed with unresolved chords.
